Out and about in The City - I have drawn to pass the time on almost every subway trek I've taken since moving to New York two years ago. I have worked through sketchbooks so quickly this way. Subway rides can almost single-handedly be blamed for any improvement in drawing the figure or portraits for me. I look through my old sketchbooks, from only a year or so ago, and I have to chuckle because they look completely foreign to me now. Not that I am able to capture with any more accuracy today than I could then, but the practice has given me a lot more comfort drawing in public and a lot more confidence to allow my hand to do what it does naturally.If you want to get better at drawing, you have to draw."No one hits the bullseye with the first arrow"
As an exercise to loosen up my hand I often switch to only drawing a person's outline.
Sleep won.
This man was one of the angriest people I've ever seen on the train. Silently, wholly angry. Grr.
Pretty sure that's the best hand I've ever drawn. This might be the best drawing I've ever done.
